Really?....Beyonce And Rihanna Courses To Be Offered In US University!!!

Talk about girl power! They are international superstars. They are listened to on the radios, read about in the headlines and followed on social medias; As if that is not enough, they are about to become the subject of University courses....The University of Texas, (UT) at Austin is offering a course titled "Beyonce Feminism, Rihanna Woman-ism" for it's spring 2015 semester!

See more after the jump!!!

According to University of Texas at Austin blog, this will be more than just an endless loop of "Crazy in Love" and "Umbrella" The course will focus on "how the lyrics, music videos and actions of these women express various aspects of black feminism such as violence, economic opportunity, sexuality, standards of beauty and creative self-expression".

So, what exactly does Beyonce Feminism, Rihanna Woman-ism mean? For one,  Feminism and woman-ism are merely different inflection of the same word. Beyonce's Feminism will entail positioning the artist in conversation with US black feminism while Rhianna's feminism may explore themes of feminism experienced by Caribbean women.

Beyonce's choice comes from declaring in 2011 that "girls run the world"---She named her world tour "The Mrs. Carter Show" and also calls herself the "modern day feminist"

According to Kevin Allred, the professor of "Feminist Perspectives: Politicizing Beyonce" at Rutgers University, featuring celebrities in course materials is a strategic way to draw students in....

"If Beyonce is claiming herself as a feminist, we need to accept it, listen to it and investigate it"

The reason behind using Rihanna as a model for feminism is not as clear. She stood her ground during the notorious domestic violence case with Chris Brown and is known for her bold persona and lyrics, but she is yet to publicly embrace the f-word.

This is not the first time a University will offer a pop star centered course. There is the "Sociology of Miley Cyrus" offered at Skidmore College and also, the University of Virginia recently offered a course titled "Gaga for Gaga: Sex, Gender and Equality"

This should be interesting!
