Former CBN boss was turbaned as the new emir of Nigeria's northern region's biggest city of Kano, four days after the demise of the 83 years old emir Abdullahi Ado Bayero. The turbaning ceremony was held in the Government House Kano amid tight security as protesters burnt tires in rejection of Sanusi's choice
The ruling People's Democratic Party refused to congratulate the new emir. The president has been at war with Sanusi since suspending him as CBN boss last February on Accusation of financial recklessness, an action Sanusi is still contesting in court.
The Party's final acceptance of the former central bank governor as the new emir of Kano came more than 24 hours after it committed a huge blunder by rushing to congratulate another contender for the coveted post, Sanusi Ado Bayero....Even when official annoucement of the successor to the late Ado Bayero had been made..
Apparently embarrassed by the turn of events, the ruling PDP quickly withdrew it's innitial statement that Sanusi had emerged the emir over his close rival, Mr Sanusi Ado Bayero.
The Party's National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Monday said the party....."Has an unflinching reverence for the traditional institution and in that regard extends the same reverence it had for the late emir to Sanusi Lamida Sanusi"
It however said it expect the new emir to remain non-partisan deserving of the exalted and revered office, like his predecessor....."The PDP holds the office of the emir in very high esteem. We therefore, give the new emir our prayers and urge him to ensure that the sanctity of the throne and the traditional institution are absolutely guarded and preserved".
"We are very much aware that his status has changed and we pray the almighty Allah, who alone confers authority, to grant him wisdom and good health to lead his people to peace and prosperity"
Calling for calm in the ancient city of Kano following protest that greeted Sanusi's emergence, the PDP urged the new emir to take steps to unite it's people and note that he is not the emir of any political party, but that of the entire people of the Kano Emirates.
HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who assumed office on Sunday kicks-off his assignment by joining the rally #BringBackOurGirls
"There is no rift at all, we are all together and we belong to the same family" The new emir who was turbaned as Dan Majen Kano said in his first inaugural speech. "We have no cause to fight one another" he said, going on to allege conspiracies "by some outsiders " to plunge Kano into crisis.
Congratulations to the new emir. I have to ask though, does that mean that his former boss, President Goodluck Jonathan will now have to bow down to the former CBN boss? Chai diaris God oooo....lol
