To mark the 20th anniversary of the infamous June 12, the government of Oyo States and Osun States has joined the Ogun state and declared Monday, June 12th as a public holiday. The holiday is aimed at the recognizing martyrdom of the late Moshood Abiola the acclaimed winner of the June 12th 1993 presidential election that was annulled by the military regime of Ibrahim Babangida.
The election was at the time adjudged to be the freest and fairest in Nigeria's political history.
The government of Oyo, Osun and Ogun States believed and have all agreed that Chief Moshood Abiola ought to be honored for laying down his life for Nigerians to enjoy democratic governance.
