“I am so proud to be called a daughter of Dr. Shirley Cesar because without her there would be no me,” said gospel singer Yolanda Adams at the ceremony.
She added, “I got a chance to see what excellence and action really is every day of my gospel career and that is Dr. Shirley Caesar.”
Caesar has released more than 40 albums including a 2016 album titled, “Fill This House.” Some of her gospel hits include “No Charge,” “Hold My Mule,” and “Sweeping through the City.”
“You are such a beast at what you do. Save some for the young people; save some for this generation,” joked gospel singer Kirk Franklin at the ceremony. He added, “We love you, but you’re our No. 1 competition.”
In 2000, Caesar was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
“Never even in my wildest imagination I would have fathomed in my mind growing up in Durham, N.C., that one day my name would be enshrined in a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Unimaginable… But God…,” said Caesar during her acceptance speech.
