LL Cool J Becomes First Rapper To Earn Kennedy Center Honor!!!
Congratulations to rap legend, LL Cool J, for making history as the very first rapper to earn a Kennedy Center Honor. An award that recognizes artist with a lifetime of contributions to American culture.
This year's Kennedy Center Honor recipients includes actress/dancer Carmen de Lavallade, singer-songwriter Gloria Estefan, writer/producer Norman Leah and singer/songwriter Lionel Richie.
LL was definitely in good company and he spoke about it on an Instagram post.......
"I believe that we are built to do anything we put our minds and proper actions to. You have all the tools inside you that are required for you to fulfill your GOD given purpose. This one is for those who came before me and those who followed me. We were sent to this planet to love and inspire one another. Manifest our dreams and make them a reality. I hope you are inspired by me because I'm absolutely inspired by you. Mic check 1212 let's ride 🎤 #KCHonor #StateDepartmentDinner #hiphop
See more after the jump!!!
The 49-year old who made his storied entry into rap's mainstream some 32-years ago was nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in November. Ice Cube, a legend in his own right, made sure to give LL his own special salute....."Congrats to the homie LL. Raps first solo superstar and trailblazer" Ice wrote
Absent at the ceremony was President Donald Trump. Marking only the fourth time in four decades a sitting US president hasn't attended the honors. Trump in August opted to sit this one out amid a swirl of suggested boycotts. And that decision was just fine with the honorees and those who performed for them, who this year were happy to have a separation of arts and state. The award will air as a special Dec. 26th on CBS.
Congratulations to them all.
